The Night Our Horse Burned Down

there she stood upon the hill
a lonely horse grazing at dusk
fire was the furthest thing from her mind
Sonja never knew of flames or danger
but Sonja should have
for that night the flames came raging
thundering across the field
she just stood there
scared to death afraid to move
hoping it would all pass by
it did
Sonja burned right to the ground

Untitled

strawberries in hot tar
on the roof
with ants and spiders

butter in Peter's bed
and in his drawer
same difference

come with me into the sunset
we'll have a laugh
and a beer

oh splatter in yout eye
with honey
and vinegar - and a little nut

elephants and crocodiles
are messy
but oh lord!

piglets worms camels
dogs rats chickens suckers
hogs lice and maggots

ants bees spiders millipedes moths crickets
termites locusts wasps praying mantises
cockroaches beetles fleas flies David

The Dead Pony

my pony is dead
and it's funny

a pony is dead
if never born

my pony was
never born

I never had a pony
I never wanted one

Gee

just think
in spite of all the glorious things
you've done in the past
and everything that's happened to you
right now
at this very moment
during your latest breath
and your most recent heart beat
you are reading my poem
I am flattered
